How did that happen?

Boo & Moose, the crazy kittens, adopted in June

I could blame it on the kittens, but this unfortunate state of affairs started before they arrived… I really don’t know how or when it happened, but lately, things have gotten out of control. Why do I have six WIPs going (at least that is what I found last night!)? Now this may not sound like a lot to you, but to me, well, let’s just say that I am pretty obsessive about things (some might say Very!) and it drives me a little crazy if I don’t finish up one project before starting the next.

100% yummy silk yarn

First, there is the gorgeous 100% silk yarn, that has actually been at least three other WIPs during its lifetime. Every time I start a project with it, it seems to want to become something else. In its current state, it’s going to be a kimono. (I know, I know. It doesn’t even look remotely like a kimono. This one starts at the sleeve edge.)

Then there is the green scarf. All I wanted to do was to make a pretty scarf with green-colored yarn. The only other qualification being that the yarn needs to have some amount of cashmere in it. I found four balls that work nicely together, but have stopped, since I think I will need at least two more balls of yarn so that the scarf will be long enough.

These are very nice shades of green, which my camera seems to hate!

My husband’s hat was finished and he was thrilled, since in the 20+ years that we have been together, I have never actually finished making him anything. However, once he tried it on, I quickly realized that it just didn’t fit right. So, it went right back into WIP status. As you can see, I did start it again, but must have gotten distracted by something else (“meow, meow”).

Another project for my husband, a scarf to keep him warm while he’s out on the lake ice fishing. I think this project was started two years ago, maybe three?! I forgot I even had it until I had to look for a certain needle, and there it was, looking so lost and forlorn. Since ice fishing hasn’t started yet, I think I may be able to redeem myself by finishing this and the hat. Wouldn’t that be something!

The next project-in-waiting may look similar to a giant gauge swatch, but it’s actually the back of a baby sweater. The particular baby in question is now just over a year old. I guess if I finish it up soon, then I can have a gift ready and waiting for the next expecting mom!

And last but not least (and probably the most embarrassing), the triangle green scarf with the fun and flirty fringe. (Note to self: you seem to be pretty fond of green yarn. Next time, try to choose another color!) I actually finished knitting this months ago. Why is it still in WIP status, you ask? Because for some reason, I can’t seem to weave in four measly ends and block it. Finishing can be so taxing *sigh*.

Maybe once the new year is upon us, which will be sooner than I would like to think, I can turn over a new leaf (by then the kittens will be a bit older and not so overwhelming, she says to herself, not believing a word of it!).

Speaking of being obsessive, I am actually not the only one here at Patternworks who has been accused of being that way. Most of us are, especially about our customer service. That is why we have been working so hard on updating and improving our website! We think that you’ll like the new look and find that it’s easier to navigate through to find what you’re looking for.
